ABOUT US

Making Lives Better was founded at Rollins College on September 9th, 2009 as a student-led service organization. It begun as the brainchild of two international students from Nepal. These students, in keeping with the college's mission of Global Citizenship and Responsible Leadership, identified a need in their community. Aditya Mahara, growing up the son of an Orthopedic surgeon in Nepal, witnessed firsthand the devastating realities of access to poor healthcare. Coupled with his interest in Education, Adi believed that his privilege required him to act. In his second year at Rollins College, after being joined by friend, Raghabendra Kc, they set out to take action. Kc, having been apart of similar organizations in High School saw potential in the possibility of providing clean water.

Their combined passion for service, and their dedication to their home country poised Making Lives Better for a tumultuous, but passionate endeavor. Over the course of one academic year, Adi and Kc, along with 8 other dedicated, passionate students, raised over 35k in order to conduct the first among a series of Health Camps and Educational outreaches in rural Nepal. Since its inception, MLB has been fervently raising funds to continue working in rural Nepal. In the Summer of 2012, Rollins sent another group of students to Nepal-- that time reaping even greater achievements.

In the past four years, MLB has been able to provide better access to health resources to close to 1,000 people in rural Nepal as well as donate numerous laptops and school supplies, and provide clean drinking water to entire villages. We have successfully been able to raise close to 100k in the past four years, but we know our work must continue.
